Sweeney to retire if Tims wins rematch

From the desk of Anthony Leaver, Matchroom Sports – Michael Sweeney says he will retire if he doesn’t beat Ian Tims in their Cruiserweight rematch at The 3Arena in Dublin on November 15, live on Sky Sports. Sweeney and Tims met for the Irish title in March 2011, with Tims edging the Mayo man 97-95 to claim the vacant belt.

Frampton believes Belfast atmosphere the best around

Hyland Jnr to step up on ‘Back to the Future’ card

Paul Hyland Jnr is stepping up to six rounds on Mark Dunlop’s November 22 card as the 24-year-old steadily moves along his professional learning curve. The popular Belfast boxer is fresh off the back of a resounding 40-35 success over Gloucester’s Andy Harris on the last Devenish show and will now look to stave off the threat of southpaw mover Lewis O’Mara as part of the ‘Back to the Future’ event headlined by Dee Walsh. Speaking after the Harris victory Hyland Jnr was generally pleased with his display and whenever the youngster planted his feet and let the punches go it looked increasingly likely that the usually resolute visitor was close to being removed early.

Limerick light-middleweight Andy Lee is busy preparing for his December 13 date with unbeaten Matt Korobov but it’s the 30-year-old’s exploits in his most recent outing that have seen Andy become somewhat of an online sensation. According to internet trend-catcher Buzzsumo.com Lee’s stunning fifth-round knockout of John Jackson has pulled in well over 400,000 shares, with the majority coming courtesy of the Google Plus social media network.

This latest MHD Promotions card sees the cream of Belfast’s young crop of talent enjoying another run-out as they chase title opportunities. In the headline attraction Dee Walsh takes on Terry Maughan for the vacant Irish light-middleweight title and Olympic Youth gold medallist Burnett has bagged a spot on the undercard.

Pro boxing coach, personal trainer and all-round nice guy Gerard McManus recently kindly offered to train 20 complete novices to fight in a White Collar Boxing event. Gerard has agreed to train all participants as if they were training for an actual fight using his years of knowledge and expertise to get everybody in to the best shape of their lives.
