Tennyson on the ‘Road to Glory’ as Devenish show takes shape

MHD Promotions return to the Devenish Complex on May 10 when head honcho Mark Dunlop runs his ‘Road to Glory’ card. There have been plenty of names coming on and off the running order but they have finally settled on an eight-fight bill.

The top of the bill contest sees 20-year-old west Belfast featherweight James ‘The Baby-Faced Assassin’ Tennyson (9-1 with 8 KOs) take on seasoned pro Ian Bailey over eight rounds. Bailey is number four in the British featherweight ratings and a win here for either boxer would catapult them to a shot at the British or Commonwealth title later in the year.

One welcome inclusion to the night’s action is former British featherweight champion Martin Lindsay. The Immaculata stylist will look to brush off the cobwebs ahead of his Commonwealth title clash with Josh Warrington on May 21 against a yet-to-be-named opponent.

Someone’s 0 has got to go when unbeaten light-middleweight Dee Walsh takes on Hungary’s Krisztian Duka.

Paul Hyland Jnr makes his debut against Zoltan Horvath, a veteran who has been plying his trade mostly in Italy over the past few years.

James Fryers looks to take his professional record to 4-0 when he faces east Belfast’s popular Alec Bazza who gave Anthony Upton a good argument in the Holiday Inn recently.

Former British and Commonwealth title challenger Luke Wilton looks to get back to winning ways when he takes on Bulgaria’s Stefan Slavchev.

Talented middleweight Alfedo Meli continues his ascent to title class when he takes on another Bulgarian, Samet Hyuseinov.

Legendary Belfast trainer John Breen reveals his latest prospect when Shankill Road’s Derek Potteris pitched in against Fivemiletown’s Ben Mulligan at super-featherweight.

The weigh-in will be held at the Devenish Complex, Finaghy Road North at 1pm on Friday, May 9. Doors open at 6pm with the first fight starting at 7.15pm. Tickets available on the door £40 VIP Ringside and £30 unreserved.
