Martin Lindsay lands Commonwealth title shot

Belfast’s Martin Lindsay will challenge Josh Warrington for his Commonwealth featherweight title on May 17. Lindsay’s title tilt will take place at the First Direct Arena in Leeds and will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.

Warrington makes the second defence of his title after his impressive win over Rendall Munroe in Manchester earlier this month, and the 23-year-old faces another stern test for the belt in the shape of Belfast’s Lindsay, the former British champion who is back for a second crack at the title after tackling Welshman Lee Selby for the belt in February 2013.

That 12-round points defeat to Selby was the ‘Mac Man’s’ most recent outing during a career that has been plagued with inactivity. When sharp and focused Martin has proven his worth at domestic level and may still aspire to European level if he manages to topple Warrington. Lindsay may be approaching the twilight of his boxing shelf life but he is always in fantastic condition and may be able to rediscover the form that once saw him defeat the likes of Derry Mathews and Paul Appleby.

“This is a real pick ’em fight between two top Featherweights,” said promoter Eddie Hearn. “Both are all action fighters and the Leeds fight fans can expect a cracking domestic dust up.”
