Wins for O’Brien, Kennedy and Whitehouse in Dublin

There were wins for three Irish boxers earlier this evening at the Red Cow Hotel. Craig O’Brien opened the show with a 40-36 victory over Bulgaria’s Asen Vasilev. Light-middleweight O’Brien made his size and reach advantages work for the most part and peppered his opponent’s body with well-timed flurries. Podgy Vasilev, a well-travelled veteran, used his ring smarts to tie and smother and both men tired slightly as the bout wore on.

Sweeney to retire if Tims wins rematch

From the desk of Anthony Leaver, Matchroom Sports – Michael Sweeney says he will retire if he doesn’t beat Ian Tims in their Cruiserweight rematch at The 3Arena in Dublin on November 15, live on Sky Sports. Sweeney and Tims met for the Irish title in March 2011, with Tims edging the Mayo man 97-95 to claim the vacant belt.

Casey’s back on the title trail after successful Rogowski tune-up

Former European super-bantamweight champion Willie Casey returned with a win on Friday, June 20 in Belfast and now believes that title opportunities will once again arrive his way. Casey was made to work by tough Polish journeyman Krzysztof Rogowski for the duration of his featherweight six-rounder but managed to post a 59-55 success that will hopefully help to get the ball rolling again.
